One of the biggest festival that showcases the rural beauty of Rajasthan “Pushkar fair”. This festival attracts a huge number of tourists and locals and is a big source of business.
Considering the current scenario the restrictions are being placed by limiting the people in public events. Rajasthan government declared not to organize any events like fair or festival gathering.
A festival known as a nine-day festival is held each year in which cames and horses are traded was scheduled to start from 22 November, but seeing the situation, the government has no such planning.
An official from the tourist department reported that in normal years, the people from animal husbandry, department of tourism, and the administration department use to do planning and scheduling events. However, there is no action till now.
The organizers are still hoping to organize the event on a low scale by restricting the trade of camels and horses. They also added that there will be a slight change in the guidelines of increasing the people in the gathering, then the festival might happen, but they are still hoping for the best. Though the chances are minimum. The budget has been slashed by 50% of the tourist department, due to the reason the officials of the department have canceled all the fairs and festivals this year, due to the covid situation and maintaining social distancing and necessary precautions.
The official government stated that “ the advisory limit is 100, it will be quite challenging to limit the number of people.” Pushkar festival is the most famous festival which attracts many people from different states in which people sell handmade items, buy cattle, and make money. Many competitions are organized in this festival like “matki phodh”, “longest moustache” and “ bridal competitions”. One of the people from the tourist department stated that it is said that this year will not be the same even tourist will suffer along with the stakeholders.
