All thanks to on-point goals by Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres, English football club Manchester City claimed victory over Newcastle United with a score of 2-0. This win has helped Manchester City to move within five points of Premier League leaders, Liverpool. On Saturday, a big lead was given to Manchester City in a low key game by Gundogan with a fine finish clubbed with some classic moves from the side of Pep Guardiola. It was not before ten minutes past the half time that Ferran Torres smashed his seventh goal of the season. The defensive play by Newcastle United was also praised as worthy as it was due to their error-strewn play that made Torres take time to net a goal.
Facing their twelfth consecutive Etihad defeat, the chances of United Newcastle on the other end were nothing less than fleeting. Manchester City took no time in finding their rhythm and a smooth move by Joao Canceo was all that was needed to pass the ball to Raheem Sterling and from there he cut the ball back for Gungogan to hit the net. This was the second goal by Gundogan in this season of Premier League. This is the same number of goals that he had netted in the thirty-one games of last season.
Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow was made to scramble back to catch away the ball by Kevin De Bruyne when a mis-hit cross into the box looked to be dipping under the crossbar.
Just after the half-hour, the well-built defense by Newcastle United was broken by De Bruyne but all in vain as Darlow rushed off in his line to the narrow-angle and saved the face of his team.
Newcastle United was rarely a threat to the other end in the whole game. Although the game was played positively by them in the first half yet they failed to mark their victory in the opening forty-five minutes of the game. Just after the break, Ederson was forced by a Jacob Murphy angled shot to make his first meaningful save before Manchester City added a second one.
The failure knocked on the doors of Newcastle United twice while clearing their lines. Miguel Almiron and Federico Fernandez, both were guilty for their sloppy performances during the play and the baton of victory was handed to the United by the players of Newcastle themselves as, as soon as the ball dropped, a sleek strike by Torres went past Darlow to fire home.
Substitute Sergio Aguero was denied the chance by the outstanding goalkeeper of Newcastle United Darlow to put the gloss on the outcome with a chic save from close range late on after another sweeping attacking move by Manchester City.
