Karan Johar’s new movie Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, hits online Platforms like Netflix, Disney Hotstar, Amazon Prime videos on 12th August 2020. The film has been in the talks since the movie release.

The movie is a biopic of Gunjan Saxena. The story is inspired by the real-life story of flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena, the first Indian woman to become an IAF (Indian Air Force) officer and the first female combat pilot in the Kargil war (1999).

In this movie, the lead role of Gunjan Saxena has been portrayed by Sridevi’s daughter Jaanvi Kapoor, and her father’s character, played by Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi is seen in the role of Gunjan’s brother.

The movie is in talks because, after its release, the former IAF pilot who served with Gunjan Saxena slammed the film for peddling lies. She said that the movie showed only a few things related to Gunjan’s real life, and the movie peddled lies about Gunjan’s achievements and the mistreatment of female officers in IAF.

Namrita Chandi, the former wing commander of IAF, who served and trained with Gunjan Saxena, wrote an open letter and criticized the movie for portraying IAF negatively.

She wrote in the letter that “I have never faced any kind of ill-treatment and abuse, as shown in the movie.” She also wrote that the men in the blue uniform were all true gentlemen and professionals.

The former IAF officer slammed Karan Johar’s Dharma Production and its dreadful writers for portraying the blue-uniformed IAF officers terribly in a negative role, showing extreme gender bias and even harassment in this movie. While Namrita agreed to some scenes shown in the film, such as no separate changing room or ladies’ toilets were present at that time.

But the female officers getting mistreatment in the IAF, as shown in the film was absolutely erroneous, she also stated that her colleague officers always tried their best to make them (female officers) feel comfortable and also asserted that some of her brother officers stood outside to guard while she was changing inside.

Namrita also asserted that not Gunjan but Srividya Rajan was the first lady pilot who flew to Kargil. She also added that she served the industry for 15 years and never faced any gender discrimination or abuse.

Namrita Chandi gave a little suggestion to Jaanvi Kapoor. By advising her, Namrita said that if she feels proud to be an Indian woman, she should not act in such a film that peddled lies and showcases the Indian men and women in a poor light.

The real Gunjan Saxena also gave several statements about the vital role of IAF in her life and opportunities given her by the IAF. Gunjan Saxena herself told a news agency that she had never been experienced any abuse or gender discrimination during her entire journey.

Another retired IAF officer Air Vice Marshal Suryakant Chintaman Chafekar also criticized the film and the team for representing IAF in the wrong way without proper research about IAF.

He said that the movie should have been focused on the bravery and courageous of women, but instead of that, the film displayed women discrimination and maltreatment of female officers by the male officers of IAF without any factual evidence.

After IAF officers, Kangana Ranaut, the queen of Bollywood, also slammed Karan Johar and his new release Gunjan Saxena and not just Kangana, only many others also have attacked the movie.

A hashtag was trending on twitter claiming Karan Johar had insulted the IAF (Indian Air Force).

The IAF also had complained to the Central Board of Film Certification, Netflix, and Dharma Production for the negative portrayal of IAF and for showing gender discrimination in the IAF. IAF is demanding a public apology.

Pankaj Tripathi, who played the role of Gunjan’s father in the movie, his acting has been highly praised. Even Boney Kapoor, the real father of Jaanvi Kapoor, appreciated his acting and said that Pankaj Tripathi played the role of Jaanvi’s father in a much better way than him.
