Apple, the well-known brand and loved by many users, is launching its new privacy policies and upcoming apps which will come with a label that shows what data the company will be collecting. The company has announced this earlier in the last year and now is updating the published policies so that users become more aware of the decisions. Some apps suggest that this gives Apple an unfair advantage and is not protecting users’ privacy but rather taking control over it.
Apple will also be providing a manual review report of apps that don’t represent their data collection.
The new privacy of Apple, launched on the night of Monday, talks about app permission, but recently it clearly talks about user’s data and also assures to give an easy to read a summary.
In a virtual meeting, Apple explained about the manual and it’s easy to use summary for the developer’s self-reported privacy policies.
An Apple executive said that they are starting to publish the information for the users across all platforms and this reporting of privacy is a part of app submission for all users including apple for its apps.
However, not all developers agree to it. Earlier this week WhatsApp made a move and said to mandate the “privacy nutrition labels” on the app stores gives messages, Apple’s pre-installed messaging app. Apple replied to this by saying they too will be getting labels for their apps from the web, although of course, they are not on Appstore, users will have to go searching for further pieces of information.
Apple emphasizes the statement that the process is still ongoing and they are creating an easy-to-use system for the apps and evolve.
The label will show the type of data it is collecting and whether it will be used to track the user or will be linked to a person. This will help the user in a way, like if your information is used by an app and then linked to data on another app or website, then Apple sees it as tracking. And the data linked will be tied to your identity through your user account app or your device.
Furthermore, for developers, they will be able to create and update the label on the portal, a form is provided which they can fill and it will be displayed on the Appstore. This information will not be verified by Apple rather it will be reported to community reports.
Apple said they will rely on self-reporting this works well with many things like age ratings, if they come to hear about any inaccuracy they will reach out to the user for the same.
